The Bwa people may have borrowed the concept of this particular mask from the Gurunsi ethnic groups, such as the Nunuma and Nuni. This mask, adorned with a plank on top, represents the spirits of the wilderness that are associated with the foundational legends of various clans. Its surface is adorned with intricate geometric patterns, including an X shape that mirrors the scarification marks found on the foreheads of insiders. Traces of ancient polychromy can still be discerned on this mask, which is always meticulously carved from dense wood. The dancer who wears this mask during funerals or agricultural celebrations must possess exceptional athleticism to maintain balance while executing acrobatic maneuvers. Some minor abrasions, barely noticeable cracks, and remnants of kaolin can be observed on the mask.
