The villages of West Africa are known for their Guro Masks, which are often used in dances and other performances. These masks served as a form of entertainment and were used to represent various social roles. Typically, male dancers would wear the masks, and neighboring villages would hold dance competitions. The dances themselves usually involved three characters: the first being the Gu Mask, which portrayed a young and beautiful woman with intricate hair styling, the second being the Zaouli Mask, which represented an elderly man with a beard, and the third being the Zamble, which depicted an antelope and was most likely based on the common Bushboks found in the region.
