Eket mask. Old piece over 40 years old. Piece delivered on a base. Present in Nigeria, the Eket, a subgroup of the Ibibio, worship the sun and the moon. Their circular masks, refined, often adorned with geometric shapes (triangles, semicircles, etc.) are used during the rites of the secret society Ekpo during sowing periods. They play a political, religious and judicial role. This mask was placed on the ground and the whole community danced around it to celebrate the end of the dry season (and the return of the rains). These masks represent the union of the sun and the moon which gives birth to the World.
