The faces masks of these African Songyé masks (or kifwebe in Songye) masks are covered with parallel streaks inspired by the fur of certain animals, such as the zebra masks , to which the Songye masks attach great mythological importance. Their large, square-chinned head displays a rectangular or figure-8-shaped parted mouth, a triangular nose and large almond-shaped eyes, and a large domed forehead. Similar masks, but generally more rounded in shape, are also used by the Luba.......
