African Secretary bird mask Toussian hornbill plank mask masks for wall-G2005

The Toussian (or Tussian) people from the southwestern part of Burkina Faso use such masks in initiation ceremonies. The name of the mask is hornbird mask because it is shaped like a stylized bird and contains two hornbird heads at the top. During the ceremony, the entire body is covered and the mask is worn. The wearer then tries to imitate the animal as best they can through movement and sound.
