The production of this sculpture was a joint project that involved the expertise of numerous Kongo specialists. In the beginning, a sculptor crafted a hollow figure which was later charged with energy by a second specialist, known as the nganga. The nganga infused specific areas of the figure with bilongo, a mixture of animal, plant, and mineral components, to form the nkisi, which is also known as a power figure. The nkisi nkondi, a hardware-filled nkisi, was among the creations.
